Metaphysics

“Metaphysics is the part of philosophy that asks questions such as “What is the world made of?” and  ”What is the ultimate substance of all reality?”

In fact, the ancient Greeks were among the first to suggest that there is a “true” reality (noumenon) under the “apparent” reality (phenomenon), an “unseen real” beneath the “unreal seen.”  The question is, what is this true reality?  Is it matter and energy, i.e. something physical? This is called materialism.  Or something more spiritual or mental, such as ideas or ideals?  This is called idealism.  Materialism and idealism constitute the two extreme answers.”

Metaphysic asks, “What is the world made of?” And, “What is the ultimate substance of all reality?”

Does this mean whatever the world is made of is the ultimate substance of reality?

Or have I made a leap to far? Can the world be made of one thing and the ultimate substance of reality is made of another?

No, I doubt it. I’m pretty sure it’s one and the same.

And “The question is, what is this true reality? Is it matter and energy, i.e. something physical? Or something more
spiritual or mental, such as ideas or ideals?”
Well, why does it have to be either/or? Why do the concepts of materialism and idealism have to be conflicting or opposed? Why can’t True Reality be both?
Ideas exist out there….as a vibe. An energy which translates into matter.

Look how life imitates art. And how art imitates life. And how art reflects life back to us.

Now the fun bit is there are two forms reality. True reality surely exists outside of us. Is bigger than any one of us. A vibe which is out there which we can tap into. And which we can chose to express in our art, or in our lives. This could be called intuition.
Illusion, as form of false reality, comes from within us. Where we want to impose our sense of reality (illusion) on others and on Life itself. This could be called imagination.

Surely this has to be True…because if idealism is to hold as a concept at all, (which I believe it does) who had the first thought? Who had the idea to Create the world?
The mountains? The oceans? The deserts? The forests? The lakes?
If physical reality can come about as result of an idea, Ultimate Reality surely can’t be man made as physical reality existed long before man.
Surely Ulitmate Reality has to be bigger than humanity? But where humanity is an expression of Ultimate Reality, or not, as we chose. If we chose to express Reality or illusion in our lives.
So then let’s say True Reality is Divine.
This is a difficult word as it has many interpretations.
So let’s say Love is Divine and Reality is Love. And life is an expression of Love, a gift of Love.
And then I will modify this poem of Rumi’s where he expresses this so beautifully:

“The intellect has two forms. The first is acquired, learned from books and teachers, by reflection and memorising, through logic and the sciences. In this way your intellectual powers increase, but the more knowledge you acquire, the more you are burdened. The second form of intellect is a gift of Love. Its fountainhead is the very heart of the human soul. When the water of Love bubbles up from the spirit into the intellect, it is clear and sparkling and can never become stagnant or dull.”
